Fast-Food Frenzy Hits the KHPES Stage

By Ananza Nielsen, Senior at Ka‘ū High

The Ka‘ū High & Pahala Elementary School (KHPES) stage transformed into a fast-food frenzy this past weekend as students premiered a series of original comedy skits to a packed audience by blending relatable humor with a unique fast-food corporate theme. Led by Director Kendall Haddock.

The production was met with high praise, particularly for its professional delivery. One audience member from the Ka‘ū Dance Academy noted that the cast “kept the flow of comedy really well,” a testament to the students’ comedic timing. Director Haddock highlighted that the most rewarding part was seeing the cast hit their jokes perfectly, stating that the experience taught them how “directing and acting go hand-in-hand” when managing line delivery and stage placement for the whole ensemble.

For cast member Hokulani Carriaga Pascual, who played “Alex”, an eager job seeker who slowly becomes disillusioned, the most rewarding experience was discovering her own adaptability. “I put my own personality on the side to be the character,” she shared. However, the performance wasn’t without its hurdles. Pascual noted that the hardest challenge was how she constantly had to fight the urge to laugh during the funniest scenes to stay in character.
