The weather was perfect for the Annual ‘O Ka‘ū Kākou Keiki Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 21. Overcast skies, light trade winds, and occasional light showers blessed hundreds of keiki and their ʻohana as they plunked hooks and lines from bamboo poles to compete in various categories for prizes. Smiles and pride graced young, gleeful faces as they hauled in their catch. All fish were measured and safely released back to the ocean. Dozens of volunteers assisted with broken poles, snapped lines, lost hooks, and keeping accurate record of each fish caught. Additional volunteers staffed the pond for the super young, served up free shave ice and filled empty bellies with hot dogs, rice, chili and brownies. Ti Chun entertained guests with delightful tunes. Every keiki received a gift card. No one left empty-handed or hungry! Mahalo to OKK and to all of the volunteers and sponsors who contributed to a very memorable and successful 2026 tournament!
