Kaʻū Olakino: Small Daily Choices, Big Wellness Benefits
By Mrs. Aloha, Pamela Lara
True wellness grows through small, consistent choices that support our body, mind and spirit each day. Focus on simple habits that can help increase energy, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.
Wellness Tip #1: Start Your Day with Hydration After a night’s sleep, your body needs water. Before reaching for coffee or tea, drink a glass of water to help wake up your system, support digestion, and improve mental clarity. Adding a squeeze of lemon can provide a refreshing boost.
Wellness Tip #2: Practice the “5-Minute Reset” When life feels busy, take 5 minutes to pause and reconnect. Step outside, breathe deeply, stretch, or simply notice the beauty around you. These brief moments can help calm the nervous system and reduce stress throughout the day.
Wellness Trick: Make Healthy Choices Easy Keep fresh fruit visible on the counter, prepare healthy snacks ahead of time, and keep a reusable water bottle nearby. When healthy options are convenient, they’re more likely to become daily habits.
Simple Exercise: Chair Sit-to-Stands This exercise helps strengthen the legs and improve balance: Sit in a sturdy chair. Cross your arms over your chest or place your hands lightly on the chair. Stand up slowly. Sit back down with control. Repeat 10–15 times. Perform 1–3 sets, depending on your comfort level.
Simple Exercise: Shoulder Roll & Deep Breathe Reduce tension and improve posture by: Rolling shoulders backward 10 times. Rolling shoulders forward 10 times. Taking five slow, deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. This can be done anywhere and takes less than two minutes.
Aloha for the Mind & Heart Wellness is more than physical health. Sharing a smile, offering kindness, expressing gratitude, or checking in on a neighbor can strengthen community connections and support emotional well-being for everyone.
Remember that every positive step counts. By caring for ourselves, we are better able to care for our families, friends, and community. May you be healthy, joyful, and surrounded by Aloha!
